St. Estephe

Northernmost communal Left Bank appellation containing microclimates and soil variations. The soil of St. Estephe is a heavy composite of clay washed ashore from the Gironde. The wines here tend to have higher acidity and less perfume than some of the other Bordeaux red wines. It is planted dominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon vines, however, it has more Merlot vines than any other area on the Left Bank.

St. Estephe is home to five classified estates:

  • Chateau Cos D'Estournel
  • Chateau Montrose
  • Chateau Calon-Segur
  • Chateau Lafon-Rochet
  • Chateau Cos Labory
